sydney children's hospital, randwick
The George Gregan Foundation playground at Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick was officially opened in May
2010.
The all-access playground has been created as the most superb fusion of natural areas with beautiful trees and
plants, kids' play equipment and a treasure trove of games and creatures to explore. It provides a truly relaxing
oasis for all those kids and families needing an escape from the hospital wards.
The major focus of the playground is an incredible diorama wall which features many hidden spaces and surprise
elements for children to enjoy.

"The main aim of the client’s brief was to design and construct a play area that would be unique to the site,
respect the existing trees, incorporate elements of Aboriginal culture, allow children to experience a variety of
activities and meet the needs of all age groups.
The design, documentation, meticulous details and built works demonstrate an understanding of the needs to
satisfy the brief and have delivered a creative and exciting play facility and safe environment for children of all
cultures and ages."

welcome
ultimately I am most proud of my efforts to raise enthusiasm and to empower communities to:
- create exciting, diverse and secure naturalistic playspaces that do not rely solely on structures
- incorporate art and design elements that encourage interaction, engagement and wonder
- create places that better meet the social, emotional, spiritual as well as physical needs and aspirations
of all children and the adults that may accompany them
